maschinen krieger - Rainbow Egg/ Wave New Fireball- 5. Chips, ink and oil paint.

I'm satisfied with the chipping and overall weathering, so I'm about done with it.

Often I'm asked about weathering and when and where do I begin it. There was a time when I painted the kit up and then weather it with several oil and enamel washes, stains and modulations. Then I started "pre weathering" with oil and enamal washes. Now I begin weathering when I lay down the base or first coat of colour using lacquers and inks. Toward the end I use oil paints (when working with white base colour) and Copic Marker inks, but I don't use them as washes. It's a process and meant to built up the layers.

For Struschie. Painting a Mel.

After priming and "texturing" with Tamiya putty mixed with Gaia Evo Ex-02 black and the edges and panels outlined with Mr Metal, I trace the areas with oil paint.

Then come a few coats of thinned Gaia lacquers right over the still wet oil paint. I paint
just short of an edge or panel line.

The lacquer coat dries fast while the oil is still wet under them. As the oil dries it will crack, pit or distress the dried lacquer surface. At this point or later if you prefer, pick at the lacquer covered oil spots with a toothpick to simulate chipping.

Every Gans Needs A Maintenance Man

Many of you know Kow's SDR crew. This fellow has always been my favorite because of his quirky wall.

My interpretation using as Sensi did, gents from the Tamiya pit crew.

Start me up! Woow!

Back from Japan, and now feeling awake. I was jonezing to work on a kit while there and frankly, the only reason I wanted to come home...

But first, tighten up the bench....

S.A.F.S. type R ラクーン

Kow Yokoyama san with Wave will be releasing the Raccoon in October- just in time for my visit to JP! Not only is this a long anticipated and updated re-release of an SF3D classic for those just wanting to build it out of the box, but it offers fans more options to create cool SAFS variations. There are many suit variant possibilities that two hands have to offer.
I'm not the only fella that thinks the pouty lipped doe eyed SAFS pilot looks a hot like Liv Tyler. I hope she makes it into production! Another bonus to the kit- the "fish" decal!

Fish Decal (^o^)
