maschinen krieger - A/8 R/8 and SAFS Variant - step 4

I picked up the Evo surfacer Oxide Red initially to use as a primer, however I didn't have much success with it in that way. I use it now to "represent" a primed surface and in this case have painted it over the iron finish. I hand paint it in areas such as the reverse side of the armor plates, inside the arm wells and on the forearms as well on the suit's equipment and weapons.

There are other red oxide paints on the market, I just happen to have GAIA's lacquer to do the job.

I'll recap the parts of build I documented when this fella is complete, but for now here it is just after an oil wash and the decals applied.

maschinen krieger / Wave - SAFS Suits Weathered Using Copic Markers and Tamiya x20-A Thinner.

Finally, almost a year later these are getting finished off.

Weathering was done with oils and Copic markers. I mentioned a few times before that I use markers when weathering. I picked this technique up from Kow's last modeling book. I think I go a little further than he demonstrates by using the Tamiya thinner and brush to manipulate the ink. The marker's ink is alcohol base, so the Tamiya X-20A works well with it. It's quite effective technique for creating rust spots and mild streaking.

Here's a snippet of what and how I use the Tamiya X-20A Thinner and Copic markers:

More or less what you'll need. The blending marker is not a must, however the thinner is.

Copic Marker- dab wherever you want it.

Load brush with Tamiya thinner and pull marker ink in the direction you wish.

And there you have it. 1, 2 and 3! Maschinen Krieger! The markers leave a gloss finish behind. To deaden it, use Eco House Natural Thin. I believe white spirits will work well too pending on the finish you're applying the marker over.

NEW FIREBALL - Rainbow Egg set to develop new SAFS space type conversion kit!

Now that I have all the parts to scratch build the boots...

Big news from Kato san and Rainbow Egg this morning on FB-
Kato san will begin to develop Kow's New Fireball design (from I believe the 80's) which contains blazing rocket boots and interesting upper SAFS body to work with Wave's Seapig, Fireball and Snake Eye. What will make this kit different from other garage kits offered at past WF is Kato san will try to engineer the kit so the boots are removable.  This opens up the possibility for great dio's and story telling.

It's not clear yet if the conversion kit will be available through Rainbow Egg's mail order or be a WF offering only.  Stay tuned or check http://blog.rainbow-egg.net/

The photo's of the New Fire Ball on Rainbow Eggs blog are of Kow's original design and build.
