maschinen krieger - Bruce Wong's Moon KK Build

Bruce finished his KK in early July. It's hand panted with AV vallejo.
I particularly like Bruce's approach to the weathering because of it's simplicity.

Catch up with Bruce on Face Book to check out his other finished Ma.K builds.

maschinen krieger - Rainbow Egg/ Wave New Fireball- 5. Chips, ink and oil paint.

I'm satisfied with the chipping and overall weathering, so I'm about done with it.

Often I'm asked about weathering and when and where do I begin it. There was a time when I painted the kit up and then weather it with several oil and enamel washes, stains and modulations. Then I started "pre weathering" with oil and enamal washes. Now I begin weathering when I lay down the base or first coat of colour using lacquers and inks. Toward the end I use oil paints (when working with white base colour) and Copic Marker inks, but I don't use them as washes. It's a process and meant to built up the layers.

maschinen krieger - WAVE Gustav. Box Art Tribute.

I built this fellow for my buddy, Kirk Kirkland the owner of Collapse Industries when he took a dip  in the retail Ma.K pool. I copied the box art by Genzo Ihara. This was the first time I used lacquer paints. This build is still my favorite.

maschinen krieger - ONE OUT OF SIX SUITS....

that I need (desire) to complete before Cocogeddon begins.

This one is almost done. I tried oil pastels to weather and create highlights. The jury is still out on how useful they are.

Getting ready to deploy to Ma.K. Modeler's Showcase.

So, if I get my passport straightened out, I'll be in Japan in two weeks.

I'm signed up to take x4 11" x11" squares I think at the end of a table, so this is more or less how I plan to display the work. I need a few more larger blocks for the walkers and then I'm set.

The LD may not make the trip though on account of limited baggage space. I'm picking up a Pelican case that is approximately 30" x 25" x 11".

When the best from Japan is now available in the US

At almost the same price as the WF release and 20% less work for the fella behind Scale120, we can all sleep better now knowing a few of these figures will be on our benches...

Ma.King it to JerseyFest

Klav and I are invited to demonstrate and talk a bit about our painting and weathering techniques; how the genera we care for the most, Maschinen Krieger and the artists we've been exposed to because of it have influenced our styles.

I'll be showing the following:

-  "Space Weathering" demonstrated using AK
   Interactive product, art markers and
oil paints on the Hasegawa Maschinen Krieger
     Luna Diver.
I'll create discolorations on the Luna Diver’s hand
     painted lacquer surface. With
the mediums mentioned, I'll emulate the wear
and tear I imagine a vehicle retains
over elongated periods of service in space.

-  "White Wash" camo demonstrated on the MPC

     Star Wars T-47 Snowspeeder
Hand painted on using acrylic, oil and enamel
     paints over hand painted lacquer
contrast base coat for a finish that has layers and
     depth.

For more information on JerseyFest, the artists and vendors attending check out the website- www.jerseyfestfair.com

Thanks to Jason Eaton for recommending Klav and I for the demos and encouraging our involvement.

KONRAD/KETZER- A Collaborative

The best time was had meeting up with Struschie Ma.K and his team (family). During his visit, we spent time here and there with other Ma.K. Gentledudes which as always is enjoyable.

On his last night here we had a build session that was supposed to be mostly about gluing techniques using different glues for different jobs. I pulled out a Nitto Konrad to use as a sample kit. What was planned to be light and an exchange of techniques soon turned into a collaborative scratch build with Struschie.

So,  the idea is that the engine is exposed like the Dora and Fredric's- so pre-K00L Ketzer engine cover! ;)
Needs some tweaking though...
